One Day Interactive session on Microbes and Health

On the occasion of Science Day, a one day interactive session on Microbe and health was organized. The main focus of the day was five folds.

It started with an introduction about the Centre of Excellence and its objectives. It was followed by a presentation by Biostat India Limited, a company associated with brackish aquaculture. The discussion opened the possibility of signing an MOU with the company in near future.

The third aspect was focused on understanding the advanced methods of bacterial strain identification. Dr. Amaraja A Joshi of Microbial Culture Collection is responsible for identification of Bacillus sp at MCC, Pune. She was the speaker of the day on microbial strain identification.

The other speaker for the day was Dr. Debkishore Gupta of Peerless Hospital and Research Institute Kolkata who focused on the impact of rapid diagnosis of infection in case of Septicemia. He discussed the different methods of detection, diagnosis and prognosis of septicemia. The participants interacted with him and took suggestions on ongoing clinical projects.

The image processing methods in MATLAB was described by Prof. Debabrata Datta from BARC. He interacted with participants gave a hands on training on Matlab based image processing.

The faculty members from the mentor group also addressed the gathering. The most significant part of the day was the presentation of the ongoing research work by the scholars and project students of Microbial Technology Group. They demonstrated their work and interacted with the mentors at individual level. The interaction resulted in many important suggestions being received from the mentors which will be incorporated in the ongoing work. The meeting ended with a working lunch.
